diabetes drug METFORMIN
The commonly used diabetes drug METFORMIN has been found to reduce the incidence of liver cancer by 78%, and pancreatic cancer by 46%. It can also reduce bowel cancer by half. Scientists have discovered that the hormone insulin tends to encourage these tumours to grow if the levels are too high. Metformin works by keeping the level of insulin low while increasing the uptake of glucose into the cells of the body by an #other mechanism. Cancer Research UK says “ This drug could save people’s lives” A study of 5000 people will last 5 years to investigate this effect.
